Ezekiel 7-9; Hebrews 10

Both of these passages have a strong eschatological message.  Ezekiel has a vision of the coming wrath to be poured out on idolatrous Israel; Hebrews 10 likewise has words of warning for early Christians.  Ezekiel 7:10-12 “See the day of the Lord!  See the end is coming!  Lawlessness is in full bloom, insolence flourishes, violence has risen to support wickedness.  It shall not be long in coming, it shall not long delay.”  Hebrews 10: 26-27 “If we sin deliberately after receiving knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains sacrifice for sins, but a fearful prospect of judgment and a flaming fire that is going to consume the adversaries.”

But both of these passage also express great hope.  In Ezekiel 9 the prophet’s vision concludes with the angel’s marking an “X” on the foreheads so they will be saved from the coming destruction.  Hebrews 9 end with an exhortation to persevere despite persecution: (vs. 39) “We are not among those who draw back and perish, but among those who have faith and will possess life.”

GOD’S ANSWER: Do not get too caught up in “the end times”.  For you personally – in the evening of your life – it is the end times. Are you ready to meet My Son?  If in the next hour you had a massive heart attack, would My Son be stern or smiling?  Frowning or laughing and giving you noogies?  Think hard about this, really hard.  Oh, the Saints won today – always a good day for Me.  Now get back to work.
