Ezekiel 40-42; Peter 3

Peter 3:7 “You husbands should live with your wives in understanding, showing honor to the weaker female sex, since we are joint heirs of the gift of life, so your prayers may not be hindered.”  Maybe I should have said “Trigger warning!”  If Peter said those words today publicly, at his next book signing in Europe Femen would be there to squirt water on him.  In Peter’s time though, his words would have groups of men squirting water (or beer) on him, at the outrageous idea that women were to be honored as joint heirs of the gift of life.  But in Peter’s words here we see the foundation of the concept of Christian chivalry.  Chivalry is sneered at today, but there is much bad fruit in pushing it aside, like the assertion of a “rape culture” exisiing on college campuses.  Would that we instill in all our young men a sense of knighthood, a heart for justice, and a duty to protect the weak.

GOD’S ANSWER: It is not good for man to be alone.  Thus I created a partner for Adam – not for him to dominate – but to live with in joy rejoicing in their complementarity.  Yes, they made a bad choice and we have to do things the hard way.  But there can be joy in doing things the hard way.
