Joel; 3 John

Joel 2:13 “Rend your hearts, and not your garments, and return to the Lord, your God.”  We are continuously called to a true conversion of heart.  In the Book of Joel Israel has just experienced a devastating invasion of locusts, and the people are in grief and fear of famine.  While today we the affluent are preoccupied with trying to be slim, ancient peoples were often faced with the prospect of starvation, either because of the vagaries of nature or the grim realities of war.  Joel called for Israel – in the face of their fear – to turn wholeheartedly to trust in God.  Nothing has changed today.  We don’t worry about locusts or being besieged by the Assyrians (although we’ll clean Publix out of milk, eggs, and bread when we think an ice storm might be coming), but we can be besieged by cancer, joblessness, toe nail fungus and the like.  Lord, inspire me to prayer always “Jesus I trust in you!”

GOD’S ANSWER: My Son endured His Passion to show you the way of suffering that leads to joy.  Take up your cross and follow Him on the path leading to eternal Joy.
