Numbers 22-24; Mark 12

Mark 12:44 “For they all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood.”  The fifth precept of the Catholic Church is to support the temporal needs of the Church.  Fulfilling this precept is walking the trust walk.  When considering what to tithe it is so tempting to say “I will when…” and fill in the rest of the sentence: “when I get a better job”, “when I pay off the car”, et al.  Sadly for most of those that think that, the moment of feeling financially secure and able – that you can give from your surplus wealth – never comes.  True trust in God can begin with a tangible, prayerful demonstration of that trust.
