2 Chronicles 22-24; Romans 4

Chapters 23 and 24 depict the very cinematic life of King Joash of Judah, from his perilous infancy through his admirable kingship to his regrettable apostasy and punishment.


It’s a life absolutely worthy of a feature film, a cautionary tale indeed.  It is a reminder of why we should pray for the particular gift of the Holy Spirit which is fortitude.  Even the “good kings” of Judah found it difficult to persevere in devotion to God towards the end of their lives, doubtless wilting through sin of pride that earthly power makes one vulnerable.
