Ezra 4-6; Romans 10

Romans 10:13-15 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” But how can they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? And how can people preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring [the] good news!”

One of my friends loves to quote St. Francis: “Always preach the Gospel.  And when necessary, use words.”  I am read and heard this is as factual a quote as George Washington’s “I cannot tell a lie”, but hey, it’s something St. Francis would have said at the appropriate moment.  The point is evangelization starts with how you live your life, not by what comes out of your mouth.  Seems straightforward, but it is something that is lost on some people.  Effectively bringing people to Christ starts not with a bullhorn and bellowing “Repent sinners!”, but with friendship.  Nonetheless, words are important.  As Peter says “Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope…” (1 Peter 3:15)
