Judith 4-6; 1 Corinthians 4

1 Corinthians 4:18-21  Some have become inflated with pride, as if I were not coming to you. But I will come to you soon, if the Lord is willing, and I shall ascertain not the talk of these inflated people but their power. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power. Which do you prefer?  Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love and a gentle spirit?

This is a wonderful insight into the great saint’s personality.  It took me back to Catholic grade school, where frequently our principal Sister Mariam Clare (Sisters of Saint Joseph – “Good girls wear black!”) threatened to drop the hammer in a similar way.  She eventually left religious life, probably exhausted from dealing with kids like me.  Good times…
