Psalms 14-16; Ephesians 6

Ephesians 6:10-12 Finally, draw your strength from the Lord and from his mighty power. Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil. For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens.

This is a “rubber meets the road” belief of the Christian faith.  Either one believes we are engaged in spiritual warfare, with each human being’s salvation hanging in the balance, or one does not.  Of course the Enemy smiles at the latter, knowing they are easy pickings.  The former are hard work; bringing them into the infernal fold is where Screwtape earns his stripes.

I have two sons in the military, so maybe it’s easier for me to embrace the martial spirit.  Lord, as we enter into this holiday weekend where we celebrate the birth of our country, bless them and all the men and women who sacrifice so much so we can be free.
